CB005.3.12.001 „Cross-border Regions Collaborate for BLUE GROWTH“ (BLUE GROWTH COLLABs) project
The project is funded under the restricted call for strategic project proposal 2014ТС16I5CB005-2020-3, Priority axis 1 of the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Bulgaria - Turkey 2014 – 2020 Programme.
THE OVERALL GOAL OF THE PROJECT:
To improve the capacity for cross-border collaboration in the field of marine and environmental protection through establishment of supportive infrastructure and conditions for applied scientific research and partnership initiatives.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:
- Improvement of the institutional and scientific capacity for sustainable management and utilization of natural resources in the cross-border area.
- Enhancing generation of knowledge and competencies for environmental research and protection of common natural resources in the cross-border area.
- Building mechanisms for cross-border collaboration, coordination and interaction between key stakeholders in the field of marine and environmental protection.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
The main project activities are related to:
- Equipment and infrastructure for establishing Blue Growth Research centres at "Prof. D-r Asen Zlatarov" University of Burgas and Trakya University of Edirne
- Development and implementation of common methodologies for monitoring of aquatic ecosystems and implementation of pilot studies at three ecosystems in each cross-border region
- Local actions for regional capacity and support for the local educational ecosystems for BLUE GROWTH
- Development and piloting of a systematic methodology for monitoring water pollution from diffuse sources
- Measures for capacity building and internationalization of the activities of BLUE GROWTH Research centres
MAIN RESULTS OF THE PROJECT:
- Established and functioning Scientific and Research centres for Blue Growth in the cross-border region.
- Mechanisms for interaction between different levels of the educational system in the region established.
- Capacity for cooperation and interaction in the field of monitoring and protection of natural resources on both sides of the border built.
